Hello
MGMA
Health Care Reform Resource Center
As
Congress and the Administration focus on health care reform, many proposals
and policy options are under consideration. This resource
center provides access to the most up to date information. Here you
will find communications that MGMA individually or with industry coalitions
have transmitted to policymakers, as well as proposed legislation and
policy option papers from Congress. We encourage you to access the
information here and through the MGMA Washington
Connexion to keep abreast of important health care reform
developments.
CMS
to conduct free PQRI and e-Prescribing conference call
The
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will hold a free
national conference call regarding the 2009 Physician Quality Reporting
Initiative (PQRI) and Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program
(e-Prescribing) on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.,
EST. Registration for
this call is required.
CMS is
expected to highlight three PQRI reporting options that become available
July 1 and then take questions. The options are:

Part B patients for each eligible professional (including a minimum of
15 patients during the reporting period)

CMS
publishes a new Medicare Secondary Payer Fact Sheet
The
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently published the new Medicare
Secondary Payer (MSP) Fact Sheet. MSP provisions apply when Medicare is
not the beneficiary’s primary insurance. This document includes a helpful
reference chart indicating common situations when Medicare might pay as the
primary or secondary insurance payer.
"Heal
the Claims Process"™ questionnaire
This
year MGMA will partner with the American Medical Association (AMA) as part of
its “Heal the Claims Process” campaign. The initiative seeks to improve
efficiency and help reduce health care costs for all participants in the
health care claims process. The campaign’s goal for physician practices is
to reduce the cost of submitting claims from as much as 14 percent to just
1 percent of revenue, freeing more of your organization’s time and
resources for patient care.
We
encourage you to participate in a five-minute AMA questionnaire to help our
organizations understand member experiences in managing claims denials. The
information will help us determine how we can best assist you. Watch for
more information as we roll out the campaign later this year.
